At the urging of my wife, Rory, I have decided to expend my sports energies into the endless chasm of sports blogs rather than boring her with them. I think she also believes this might save a few years at the end of my life, since my passion for DC sports and the subsequent frustration basically gets balled up and absorbed until either my hair falls out, i keel over from a stroke, or both.
My main sports focuses are on the Redskins and the Capitals. I want to get behind the Nats, and i love the look of the new stadium, but they're so abysmal right now that i can't get emotionally invested in them. They start putting together a few wins and i'll hop on board for the rest of my life. As for the Wizards, i was never much of a NBA fan as a kid, and thats carried over. I think i would love the talent the Wiz have if i paid a lot of attention, but right now i keep track of the whole NBA and have enjoyed seeing the West especially take off this year.
My besides the Caps and Skins, the sport that gets most of my attention is MMA, specifically the UFC. My favorite fighter is GSP, who if only for his accent scores about an 8.5 on the unintentional comedy scale. Fortunately he brings it in the octagon as well and for my money is the best pound for pound fighter in the world. The potential for an Anderson Silva vs GSP fight has me salivating. I'm heavily into the Ultimate Fighter and Rampage and Forrest have been hilarious this season. As much as i love Forest though, i think Rampage is going to completely handle him once their fight comes around this summer. If there is one thing you can't count Forrest out on though is his ability to take a beating. He reminds me of 1999 Mic Foley in that regard, as his only real hope is that his opponent will get tired of punching him in the face long enough for him to score a submission. Still don't think it'll happen against Rampage though.
I was a 1998 wrestling fan, but abandoned it around 2005. I love a good match, and would probably be into ROH if it were on free tv, but WWE and TNA don't seem to be in the wrestling business anymore, rather the sports entertainment biz, which kinda sucks.
I also love video games and have a few shows on TV that i might touch on, but only if they really bowl me over. I would like to keep this sports related, but we'll see where it goes. Lets end this bit off with a short list or two.
